We have an exciting volunteer opportunity to join the CARFAC Alberta Board as Treasurer for a two-year commitment from October 2023 – October 2025.

With a mission to advances best practices for all visual artists in Alberta through education, advocacy and engagement, CARFAC Alberta envisions a province where all visual artists thrive: artwork is valued, rights are respected, and creativity is integral to our communities. CARFAC Alberta is a small not-for-profit art service organization with less than two paid staff positions and an active Board and membership.

Duties of Volunteer Treasurer and Board Member

As a member of both the Board and Executive, the Treasurer advises the Board on all matters pertaining to the finances of a small not-for-profit organization (under $200,000 budget annually). Working directly with the Executive Director, the Treasurer assists in the preparation of budgets, and meets monthly to confirm and sign off on the monthly bank reconciliation. The Treasurer is responsible for signing cheques and overseeing and approving transactions.

The Board meets virtually in the evening four – six per year based on availability of a Board of 12 members. The Executive Committee also meets virtually in the evening six times per year therefore it is important that the successful candidate has adequate availability to attend all meetings unless there is an emergency.

Volunteering with CARFAC Alberta is an ideal opportunity for accountants interested in giving back to the community. There is also potential to grow leadership skills working as Treasurer to a not-for-profit arts service organization. This position is ideal for someone with an interest in arts and culture or for someone who wants to learn more about the visual arts in Alberta.

We are seeking one professional to be appointed as Treasurer for a two year term to begin at the Annual General Meeting of CARFAC Alberta in late October 2023 with the potential opportunity to renew for a further two years.

Education & Experience

  • Ideally has an accounting designation in good standing with CPA Alberta or equivalent experience,
    Interest or understanding of the not-for-profit sector
    Prior audit committee experience would be beneficial; however not required.
    An advocate of arts and culture in Alberta and a belief in the role of arts within community wellbeing.
