Visual Arts Alberta presents COMPOSITIONS from visual artists Chris Gavigan and Sharon Simonds-Chia.

Chris Gavigan’s photography captures the pure unaltered beauty of nature in each image. He endeavors to capture the detailed texture and complexity of a group of seemingly ‘simple’ leaves. He hopes to represent to the public that even an everyday object, such as a leaf, when looked at in unique situations and angles can be extraordinary.

Sharon Simonds-Chia’s paintings grow out of observing and collecting in new environments; familiar flowers from her childhood and summers spent at the coast, now accessible again outside her door in Salt Spring. These paintings are an affirmation of her continued delight and enthusiasm for the challenge offered in painting still life; combining manmade objects with rocks , shells, flowers, and fruit; exploring the beauty of their shapes and colour; positioning them in an intimate arrangement to exploit the tensions and rhythms suggested in their relations to each other and to the boundaries of each composition.
