Towards Speculative Cities: Enabling Thought-provoking Public Art
with Mohsen Ahi Andy

The cities we live in shape our experiences. Due to its inclusiveness, public art provides an ideal platform for artists to connect with diverse audiences. When it diverges from conventional ideas and adopts a speculative and provocative role, it can prompt public awareness and inquiry. In my presentation and through examples, I will explore the potential to utilize the language of design for artists to pose questions, elicit reactions, and inspire the public.
Biography: Mohsen Ahi Andy
As a multidisciplinary artist with a BDes and MDes in industrial design and an MFA in studio art, Mohsen Ahi Andy works across two primary modes of artistic production. My studio practices typically evolve through experimentation and research of material and ideas, while my outdoor projects and site-specific sculptures are constructed using a specific and deliberate design process. Since 2022, I have been working in the curatorial team at the Art Gallery of Grande Prairie.
