Otranto Arts and Writing Residency, is a two week summer program for artists and writers to pursue independent work in a community of peers sharing a uniquely rich historical setting. The workshop offers a haven for creative rejuvenation that aims to open possibilities and paths into the work of the participants. From June 1 to June 30, a select group of up to 15 artists and writers engage in an intensive cultural and creative experience. A ten day stay can be arranged if necessary. Residents live in apartments in the ancient walled city by the sea. They work in the visual arts studio in the Castle of Otranto. Field trips include the neighboring towns of Lecce and Galatina as well as ancient neolithic sites. The place, the light, the unexpected connections of life and materials, architecture, music and the people, have proved to be inspirational in the delicate process leading to change in the relationship between matter and thought. The residency is an opportunity for artists to concentrate and interact while leaving space to dream.

  • A $35 administration fee is required to secure the date of application.
  • The total cost of the residency is 1600 Euros.
  • A non-refundable deposit of 600 Euros is due in advance, or until all spaces are filled.
