Open Call for Artworks and Proposals for Strathcona Public Services Yard (SPSY)

This public art project is part of the modernization of Strathcona Public Services Yard (SPSY). When complete, SPSY will provide an expanded and modernized office environment with enhanced service areas, including a new pre-engineered shop and larger wash bay. The facility design aligns with the Countys approach to open-concept office spaces and was informed by engagement with SPSY user groups, which included Fleet, Transit, Utilities and the former Transportation and Agriculture Services department.  

 

Opportunities 1 + 2: Interior Walls 

1. Preexisting 2D artworks (paintings, photography, prints, mixed media, low relief ceramic or other mediums)

2. Digital artworks (3D rendered digital paintings, video, animations for display on digital display/screen – i.e. 65” 4K UHD QLED LCD Samsung “The Frame”)

Budget: $26,000 for multiple artworks/artists (15-25 artists/artworks depending on price per selected artwork)  

Selection – November/December 2023 TBD (may be required to view some artworks in person before final selection)

Delivery of artwork – February through March 2024

 

Opportunity 3: Interior Stairwell 

3. Site specific installation (mural, low relief sculpture, ceramic, textile, series of 2D works)  

Budget: $15,000 + $1000 for detailed proposal

Shortlist (up to three artists selected to interview) – November TBD 2023 

Final Proposal Due for Selected Artist/or Artist Team – January TBD 2023 

Artist Award and Agreement – February TBD 2024  

Installation – March or April 2024

Eligible artists: Reside in Canada – Identify as prairie-based and whose artistic practice, proposal or artwork connects to the theme: Portal – Prairie – Passage
